Join Our Pack! On a daily basis, we have new foster dogs and cats coming into the system that need medical care, such as insulin, heart meds, allergy meds etc. Won't you be part of the pack and help with a monthly donation?
2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue is primarily a sanctuary for senior and medically needy dogs. Every once in awhile you will see younger dogs but for the most part our dogs live out their life at the ranch at the request of their previous owners or their owners families. We have many sponsorship dogs. Our sponsors love to keep in touch and know how their sponsored fur buddy is doing :) When we have foster families we are thrilled to be able to take adoptable younger dogs :) So if you have ever thought about becoming fosters please feel free to go to our foster/volunteer page and fill out an application. The Ranch located at 737 Taylor Rd., Windsor, PA is always looking for dedicated volunteers that will commit to at least a 2 hour shift per week at the rescue. Volunteers work in play yards, help with laundry and feeding. Some enjoy landscaping or carpentry projects and some like to bake for the healing center visitors :) Thank you for supporting our mission of caring for the elderly and medically needy souls that need us!

UPDATE 4/24/2021 Nick was taken to Columbia and ultrasound was done and Nicks kidneys have multiple cysts on them. At this time we are feeding him special kidney food and giving meds. We are told either his kidneys will fail or a cyst will burst and he will bleed out. We will fight with him for as long as he chooses but when he has more bad days then good we will hold him close and allow him to "soar"!
UPDATE - Nick has been diagnosed with Addisons. He will be on meds the rest of his life. Cost is about $250 per month. He feels so great after his monthly shot. You will have to watch him closely as his levels can tank rather quickly.
Hi! My name is Nick. I guess you would like to know a little about me and my story. I somehow found myself in a high kill shelter a few months ago. After a few days in the shelter when no one came to get me, they put a slip on my kennel that said I was next to be euthanized if more dogs came into the shelter. Luckily a nice shelter worker contacted 2nd Chance 4 Life and my new foster mom and her friend drove 7 hours each way to come get me! I was so happy to be out of the loud shelter that I slept like a baby the entire way home! As you can tell I am on the older side, but don't let that deter you. I have been told by everyone I meet that I am a sweet old soul. I love curling up into a little ball and sleeping on anything comfy. Did I mention I like to sleep A LOT? I am most happy on a nice warm couch next to my human. I get scared and anxious when I am home alone, and would prefer if someone would stay home with me during the day! Maybe an older soul like me will give me a chance and all the snuggles I could ever want! I like other dogs, and they seem to like me too. I am house trained, I can sit, shake with both paws, and come on command. Please give me a chance to show you that old dogs are just as fun and loving as a young puppy. You wont regret it! - Nick
Please understand we do not adopt out dogs to families with children under the age of 5. We do not adopt dogs to renters. Some dogs will have fence requirements while others may not.
A pet is a lifetime commitment. The dogs and cats in our system find themselves there, for the most part, because their humans did not have the same loyalty to them as they did to their owners. We do not take the adoption process lightly, and will do everything in our power to make sure the animal is placed correctly the first time around for your sake and theirs. Thank you for choosing to adopt not shop!

PLEASE BE AWARE: Adoption questions are not website questions! If you have questions about adoption or a specific dog, fill out an Adoption Application and the dog's foster will get in touch with you.
