2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue is primarily a sanctuary for senior and medically needy dogs. Every once in awhile you will see younger dogs but for the most part our dogs live out their life at the ranch at the request of their previous owners or their owners families. We have many sponsorship dogs. Our sponsors love to keep in touch and know how their sponsored fur buddy is doing :) When we have foster families we are thrilled to be able to take adoptable younger dogs :) So if you have ever thought about becoming fosters please feel free to go to our foster/volunteer page and fill out an application. The Ranch located at 737 Taylor Rd., Windsor, PA is always looking for dedicated volunteers that will commit to at least a 2 hour shift per week at the rescue. Volunteers work in play yards, help with laundry and feeding. Some enjoy landscaping or carpentry projects and some like to bake for the healing center visitors :) Thank you for supporting our mission of caring for the elderly and medically needy souls that need us!

Due to a surgery on Brooklyns Diaphram we are now requiring a fenced yard for her. Walking on a leash makes her cough and just seems to stress her system.... Brooklyn is a super duper love bug and loves to cuddle but also likes to get her "rip on" in the back yard. She needs a yard to run and exercise since she cannot be walked.... Brooklyn LOVES everyone and there is nothing she likes better than to cuddle on the couch with her people. She is just a great dog!
Brooklyn was hit by a car. She laid in ACCT Philly all day with no rescue in sight. The shelter vet decided that if no rescue stepped up by 6pm that he would need to euthanize her :( Philly made a last ditch effor call to us at 4:30 and we jumped into action. We were told by ACCT "we have a small little pug mix girl who has been struck by a car. We believe she has a broken scapula and she has fluid in her lungs..." We were able to meet transport half way between Philly and Elizabethtown so we jumped in a car and a volunteer from Philly jumped in a car with Brooklyn. We transferred Brooklyn to our car and headed as fast as we could to our hospital to meet one of our vets. Dr. Hann took xrays and we were pleasantly suprised to find Brooklyn did not have a broken scapula but unfortunately she had multiple broken ribs. She was hospitalized and stabalized and the fluid in her lungs was addressed. She now is on total crate rest in a foster home for 3 weeks but she is a sweet little soul and she is going to make a great forever friend!

Please understand we do not adopt out dogs to families with children under the age of 5. We do not adopt dogs to renters. Some dogs will have fence requirements while others may not.
A pet is a lifetime commitment. The dogs and cats in our system find themselves there, for the most part, because their humans did not have the same loyalty to them as they did to their owners. We do not take the adoption process lightly, and will do everything in our power to make sure the animal is placed correctly the first time around for your sake and theirs.
